My left hand has been hurting me lately. It doesnt hurt when i move it up or down....?

My left wrist has been hurting me lately. It doesnt hurt when i move it up or down, it only hurts when i move it side to side. Does this mean i have carpal tunnel syndrome? What could be wrong?
