hi my grandads like my best frend and i love him and hes got skin cancer on his back is that series ? hes 85 be the way please help me ?
Answer:
GREETINGS, Polly, usually skin cancer isn't that serious unless someone has had it years and didn't get it looked at or treated. Probably what they will do is remove the patch and he'll be fine without treatment if it was caught early, and if not as early, then he'd get a little radiation after they remove it. I'm sure he will be fine.
Skin cancer isn't life threatening, only in very RARE cases.
It depends entirely on the type of skin cancer. He probably has basal cell skin cancer, which is the most common type and the easiest to treat. It becomes more common as we age. Treatments range from freezing it, to scraping and burning it, to excision. Small lesions are sometimes treated with topical meds that destroy the cells. Squamous cell cancer is the second most common and is more dangerous - but still very treatable if it is caught early. It's not that common to find it on the back, though - more common areas are lower lip, tops of ears, backs of hands, arms and lower legs.Malignant melanoma can be fatal and must be treated right away. This is the least common of the three types and needs to be treated aggressively with surgery as soon as it is discovered. Sometimes radiation and chemo are necessary for this type of cancer.
